The Emergence of Referential Gaze and Perspective-Taking in Infants
To understand the development of infant comprehension of visual obstructions and perspective-taking, this study tested the ability of N = 28 infants at 14, 16, and 18 months to adapt attention-sharing to visual constraints. An experimental task investigated how infants modify gaze following behaviors when an adult’s line of sight is obstructed by a barrier. From 14 to 18 months, infants gradual...
متن کاملCorrelates of nap taking in mothers of young infants.
Many researchers and clinicians have promoted nap taking to combat the deleterious effects of disrupted sleep. Unfortunately, only a small portion of sleep-deprived individuals take naps. The goal of the present study was to identify cognitive and opportunity factors related to nap taking of mothers of young infants. Fifty-one mothers of young infants completed measures that recorded various ch...
متن کاملEffect of environmental temperatures on oxygen consumption in infants with congenital disease of the heart.
The effect of changes in environmental temperature on the oxygen consumption in babies with congenital disease of the heart has been studied and it has been shown that an inverse relation exists between those two variables. The significance of these findings on the practice of calculating systemic and pulmonary blood flow from predicted values of oxygen consumption is discussed.
متن کاملArchives ofDisease in Childhood 1996;75:249-250 Higher rectal temperatures in co-sleeping infants
The effect on deep body temperature of infants co-sleeping (with either or both parents) is investigated in this case control study. Overnight continuous recordings of rectal temperature were made from 34 babies co-sleeping with one or both parents throughout the night and 34 infants matched for age, feeding regimen, parental smoking, thermal environment, sleeping position, and sex who slept al...
متن کاملGiving and taking: representational building blocks of active resource-transfer events in human infants.
Active resource transfer is a pervasive and distinctive feature of human sociality. We hypothesized that humans possess an action schema of giving specific for representing social interactions based on material exchange, and specified the set of necessary assumptions about giving events that this action schema should be equipped with. We tested this proposal by investigating how 12-month-old in...
